INDIANAPOLIS – Today, State Senator Karen Tallian (D-Ogden Dunes) issued the following statement on Senate Bill (SB) 116 passing out of the Senate Judiciary Committee:
“Today, my bill SB 116 passed out of the Judiciary Committee with bipartisan support. This bill will encourage tenants and landlords to settle any existing disputes through eviction settlement conferences. Indiana has received over $400 million in federal funds for rental and utility assistance. Eviction settlement conferences will encourage tenants and landlords to apply for those available funds, which of course is beneficial to both parties. That money is there specifically for the purpose of helping Hoosiers who need it and we must take every opportunity to use it before it expires in December of this year.”
SB 116 now heads to the full Senate for further consideration.
