INDIANAPOLIS — On Tuesday, students gathered at the Statehouse to demand action on climate legislation. State Senator Tim Lanane (D-Anderson) released the following statement:
“There is no longer time for Indiana lawmakers to drag their feet on passing climate legislation that affects not only our day-to-day quality of life, but our chances of survival,” Sen. Lanane said. “The students that came to testify feel the urgency and hope of this moment more acutely than most. They should not only be applauded for their courage and determination, but should be protected by progressive climate policies passed this session, by this Legislature.
“I am proud to offer SB 127, which would study how low-carbon and green industry expansion would promote jobs and bolster Indiana’s economy. If we don’t look to the future now, we endanger our children and we endanger the reputation and viability of our state. Our job is to protect our future, and we can’t do that if we continue to turn a blind eye to the climate crisis.”
