Recently, the Town of Porter signed resolutions opposing legislation proposed by the Republican supermajority in the Statehouse. The Town Council signed multiple resolutions opposing significant cuts to municipal property tax revenues, Senate Bill 355 pertaining to changing their elections, and House Bill 1461 which looks at turning our highways into toll roads. Hoosiers are watching and seeing legislation that directly goes against their values and needs. As their state legislator, I have a duty to represent my district and express their views. I will continue to oppose and speak out against harmful legislation for District 4 #INForAll
Today in Appropriations Committee, we heard testimony on HB 1001 the State Budget. Testimony included proposals for new revenue sources to add funding for vital programs. Many of the agencies are facing cuts without replacement funding sources. One potential source is the legalization of cannabis which could bring between $20M to approximately $119M per year in revenue. I look forward to talking about the proposal so we can use these funds to pay for essential state programs Hoosiers rely on. Let’s move Indiana forward and stop losing this money to surrounding states. #INForAll

This Monday, in the School Funding Subcommittee, we heard testimony about K-12 funding in our state. I am deeply concerned about the proposed cuts—eliminating $320 million from traditional public schools over the next two years while allocating $330 million to voucher programs. School choice should be about expanding opportunities for all students, not shortchanging the nearly one million Hoosier children who rely on our public school system. Our priority must be ensuring every child receives a high-quality education, regardless of where they learn.![]()
