Over the past two weeks, I have been out in the community doing what matters most: listening, learning and serving.![]()
From two Fridays with Fady meetups at Niyyah Coffee Shop and Fire and Ice Cafe, where constituents shared their policy ideas and concerns, to volunteering at a food pantry and continuing door-to-door conversations, every interaction inspired me to continue to fight for our community.![]()
I have heard from seniors struggling to stay in their homes, from families worried about cost of rent, utilities, food, health care, transportation, and Hoosiers anxious about the impact of harmful state and federal policies and budget cuts. These stories are real and powerful.![]()
Our community is facing tough times. But throughout history, leaders from every generation have risen to fight for civil rights, equality, freedoms, and social and economic justice. With hope and resiliency, we have overcome great challenges before and we will do it again.![]()
Our strength as a community transcends politics. It lives in our neighborhoods, in our shared values and in the way we show up for each other when it matters most.![]()
Together, we keep hope alive. Together, we move forward. #INForAll
I'm proud to share that the Indiana General Assembly has selected medical debt as one of its official summer study topics, a critical issue I’ve been fighting to address on behalf of Hoosiers across our state.
Nearly 40–50% of adults in Indiana are impacted by medical debt, with $2.2 billion currently in collections. This burden doesn’t just hurt credit; it limits access to housing, jobs and economic mobility. No one should be penalized for getting sick.
Earlier this year, I introduced Senate Bill 317 to tackle this issue head-on. While it narrowly fell short in the Senate with a vote of 26-23, I remained committed to keeping the conversation going. I'm grateful this topic will now get the focused attention it deserves through a formal study committee.
My bill would have prohibited placing liens on primary residential homes, wage garnishment, and reporting medical debt on credit reports. It also would have required hospitals to offer more charitable care and payment plans for financially disadvantaged Hoosiers.![]()
Unlike any other type of debt, medically vulnerable Hoosiers don’t choose to get cancer or other serious illnesses and deserve financial support rather than going bankrupt, losing their livelihoods or their homes due to medical debt. We must address the root cause of this problem: lack of access to affordable health care services, costly yet poor insurance coverage plans, and health providers selling medical debt to collection agencies to go after vulnerable Hoosiers.
This is a meaningful opportunity to build bipartisan, evidence-based solutions that protect Hoosiers’ health and financial well-being. I look forward to working with colleagues, stakeholders, and experts to make real progress. #INForAll
🚨Important Update: Change in Location for Tomorrow’s Fridays with Fady Constituent Meetings 🚨![]()
Due to logistical issues, the location for tomorrow’s Fridays with Fady has been changed from Batman Grill to Fire and Ice Café at 6211 Allisonville Rd. I look forward to meeting with you there to answer your questions about the 2025 Legislative Session and learn more about your policy ideas for the 2026 Legislative Session.![]()

I fiercely oppose the proposed rate hike from AES Indiana, which would raise utility bills for families across Indianapolis by 13.5%![]()
State Senator J.D. Ford and I have called on the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) to hold at least five public hearings so Hoosiers have the opportunity to voice their concerns directly. With already high cost of living, another rate increase could be devastating especially for seniors and families on fixed incomes. I urge Marion County citizens to submit their comments here: www.in.gov/oucc/contact-us/![]()

Yesterday, the State Budget Committee held its first meeting since the end of session.
I used this opportunity to speak directly to the Secretary of State regarding serious concerns: his misuse of public funds (buying a tax payers funded luxury car), absence from a key budget meeting, questionable international travel, granting no-bid contracts, and patterns of nepotism in hiring and unusual bonuses for an employee who is related to the SOS. These actions do not reflect the integrity expected of a public servant; rather, they reflect a troubling misuse of office. I made it clear: this behavior is unacceptable and must stop.![]()
In addition to holding officials accountable, we reviewed important agency updates and funding proposals impacting Substance Use Disorder Treatment, the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP), Pathways Waiver, and Home and Community-Based Services. Medicaid serves about 2 million Hoosiers; therefore, we must sustain the program financially, improve access to affordable healthcare, and focus on health outcomes to help Hoosiers live healthier lives.
Two major funding mechanisms are at risk:
🏥The Hospital Assessment Fee (HAF): A federal proposal to cap provider taxes at 3.5% would slash HAF by 42%, potentially costing Indiana hundreds of millions used to support HIP.
🩺The Managed Care Assessment Fee (MCAF): If not approved, Indiana could lose another critical funding stream for Medicaid.
The state must be proactive in finding fiscal solutions—Hoosiers’ health coverage is on the line. The state’s $44 Billion biennium budget and $2+ Billion in surplus can and should prioritize Hoosiers' health needs.
I will continue to advocate for transparency, fiscal responsibility and the programs Hoosier families depend on every day.
