INDIANAPOLIS—Senate Bill (SB) 334, authored by Indiana State Senator Mark Spencer (D-Gary), will receive its initial hearing in the Senate Veterans Affairs and The Military Committee on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025, upon adjournment of the Homeland Security and Transportation Committee.
This critical piece of legislation creates a path where more children of veterans are eligible for tuition exemptions as a recognition of the service of veterans and their families.
“The members of our armed forces, and the families that support them, have been part of the backbone of our country since its inception,” said Spencer. “Allowing more families to have access to tuition exceptions to pursue further education is but a small way we can work to acknowledge the sacrifice of veterans in our state.”
Spencer, a freshman legislator, expressed excitement at his first piece of legislation being heard in committee.
“I stepped into this role with the vision of helping Hoosiers in every part of this state,” said Spencer. “I’m honored to be taking this first step to realizing that vision and am hopeful my colleagues will join me in this effort to support Hoosier veterans.”
