INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Senate has passed Senate Bill (SB) 409, authored by State Senator Rodney Pol Jr. (D-Chesterton), with a vote of 30-19. The bill prohibits employers from taking adverse employment action against an employee for being absent from work to attend their child’s case conference committee and attendance meetings.
“Parents should never have to choose between their job and advocating for their child’s education,” Pol said. “This legislation ensures that working parents can be active participants in their child’s academic success without fear of retaliation from their employer.”
SB 409 now moves to the Indiana House of Representatives for further consideration.
