INDIANAPOLIS- As the Indiana State Senate Adjourns for the final time this session, State Senator Mark Spencer (D-Gary) reflected on his first year in the General Assembly.

“The honor of representing Senate District 3 in our Statehouse is never lost on me, but it is especially poignant today as I join my Senate colleagues in adjourning for the final time this session,” said Spencer. I am grateful for the continuous collaboration with every member in this body as we work to create a better Indiana.”

Spencer saw success as a freshman legislator, serving as Ranking Minority Member on the committees on Public Policy, Homeland Security and Transportation, and Veterans Affairs and the Military.  Additionally, he served on the committees on Elections, Family and Children Services, Commerce and Technology, and Utilities.

However, most impactfully, Spencer successfully saw a bill pass through the General Assembly and make its way to the Governor’s desk with SB 331.

“I remain grateful for the opportunity to take this win back to District 3 and address a problem that was brought directly to me by our local law enforcement,” said Spencer on his bill that would require amended registration for a passenger vehicle that changed color because of vinyl wrap or paint.

On the last bill of the legislative session, the state budget, Spencer wished it would have gone further to consider public schools, working Hoosier families and the aging parents and grandparents of Indiana.

“I am looking forward to coming back for the 2026 Legislative Session to continue advocating for not only Northwest Indiana, but every person who calls this state home,” said Spencer.
