INDIANAPOLIS—State Senator Andrea Hunley released the following statement after Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray announced the votes are not there for mid-cycle redistricting, and the Senate will not convene in December:

“This moment is because of every Hoosier who showed up, called or emailed demanding that our elections not be rigged to please one man.

“Over the course of over three months, Hoosiers never once relented, and now the message is clear.

“We won’t be strongarmed into passing overtly racist maps that target our most diverse counties and work to silence the families who call those counties home.

“I urge every Hoosier who feels like their voice doesn’t matter to remember this moment.

“Just because our legislature is a supermajority, it does not mean every outcome is predetermined.

“Though the odds are often stacked against us, good is always worth fighting for, and we must continue that work.

“Session 2026 is still right around the corner, and we know too many Hoosiers are struggling to afford groceries, their power bills, health care and more.

“I am committed to fighting for policies that work to see Hoosiers not just get by, but thrive—we need Hoosiers to keep showing up to get us there, and I know they will.”
