INDIANAPOLIS – On Friday, State Senator J.D. Ford (D-Indianapolis) filed Senate Bill 250, his school anti-discrimination bill, with the support of State Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Jennifer McCormick. Sen. Ford’s bill prevents schools that receive public funds from discriminating against their students, staff and teachers.

“No school that uses taxpayer money should be able to discriminate in any way against its staff and students,” Sen. Ford said. “If a school receives state funds, such as through the choice scholarship voucher program, then it is the purview of the General Assembly to make sure this money is used properly.

“No Hoosier should have their own tax dollars used against them in a discriminatory way. In the end, we all want the same thing: for our schools to be safe places for learning and growth. That’s what I aim to achieve with this legislation, and I think it’s a goal that transcends party or political leaning.”
