INDIANAPOLIS—On Tuesday, State Senator Andrea Hunley (D-Indianapolis) had her first bill passed out of the Senate. SB 233 creates a Vision Zero task force to study traffic fatalities and infrastructure safety in Indiana. Senator Hunley released the following statement upon the bill’s passage:
“SB 233 is designed to protect all Hoosiers on our streets, trails and sidewalks. Indiana’s number of traffic fatalities and severe crashes has risen every year since the pandemic: hundreds of Hoosiers across the state have lost loved ones to unsafe or failing infrastructure.
“Any concrete plans drawn from the task force’s findings would allow Indiana to leverage federal funding through grant programs to make improvements. That means that we get to help Hoosiers at almost no cost to our state and taxpayers—this is win-win legislation. We should be protecting Hoosiers whether they walk, ride, or drive. This bill would arm us with the knowledge to do just that. I’m excited to continue working with my House colleagues to get this bill past the finish line.”
