INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Senate Democratic Caucus issued the following statement in response to ongoing United Steelworkers’ concerns regarding the proposed sale of U.S. Steel to Nippon Steel:

“The Indiana Senate Democratic Caucus unequivocally supports the United Steelworkers’ efforts to safeguard American jobs, uphold union contracts and protect the future of Indiana Steelworkers.

“Indiana’s steelworkers are the foundation of our economy—individuals who have poured their sweat, skill and commitment into industries that sustain entire communities. The transfer of U.S. industries into foreign hands without ironclad labor protections is not only a risk to our workers; it is a direct threat to the stability of our local economies.

“We cannot and will not stand by while the livelihoods of thousands of Hoosier families hang in the balance. Any deal that compromises worker rights, wages or job security is unacceptable. We demand that U.S. labor laws be upheld, regardless of who owns these companies.

“We are proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with the United Steelworkers, who fight every day for the dignity of American Workers. When we protect our Indiana Steelworkers, we safeguard our state’s economic future and the strength of our nation. The Indiana Senate Democratic Caucus will always champion policies that defend workers’ rights, fair wages and the honor of hard work. Together, we are building a stronger, more prosperous Indiana and America for generations to come.”
