On Tuesday, State Senator David Niezgodski (D-South Bend) received a Civility in Government Award from the Association of Retired Members of the Indiana General Assembly (ARMIGA).

The Civility in Government Award was created by ARMIGA in 2015 to recognize legislators who show courtesy to other legislators and members of the public, exhibit politeness and appreciation for the rights and responsibilities of others, find common ground to reach solutions and maintain emotional control so as to reflect positively on the General Assembly. In addition to the awards presentation, former United States House Representative Lee Hamilton delivered remarks as the guest of honor.

“I am humbled to receive this award which honors civility and respect in the General Assembly. It is important for us to remember that we all have more in common than that which divides us,” Sen. Niezgodski said. “As legislators we must always remember to put partisan bickering aside so we can get to work on improving the lives of those who elected us as their representatives.”
