INDIANAPOLIS— Recent reports have found that Hoosiers are paying higher utility costs due mainly to Indiana’s dependence on more expensive fossil fuels that have often been unable to provide power. Cleveland Cliffs have recently announced its efforts to design large-scale carbon capture at its Burns Harbor location and the signing of a long-term contract for a new wind farm in Indiana. State Senator Rodney Pol Jr. (D-Chesterton) represents the Burns Harbor mill and offered the following statement:

“The steel industry in Northwest Indiana is crucial to Indiana’s economy and that of the entire nation. Cleveland Cliffs are rightly taking steps to diversify its energy portfolio in a way that will limit carbon emissions. I welcome these efforts to modernize our steel industry in a responsible way. I will continue to advocate for policies that support our steel industry, diversify our region’s energy supply for businesses and residents, and clean up dangerous coal ash pollution.”
