After four months of hard work, late nights and 15 hours of heated debate, the Senate adjourned sine die tonight. I first want to say thank you to my district. Thank you for choosing me to be your state senator and to represent your voice at the statehouse. It has been a great honor.![]()

Tonight, we heard many bills for the last time, including two bills that I opposed: SB 289 and HB 1001. ![]()

Senate Bill 289 eliminates diversity, equity and inclusion, taking our state backward. I spoke in fierce opposition to this harmful legislation that would halt everything we have worked so hard to do. ![]()

House Bill 1001 is the state budget. Unfortunately, this budget underfunds public education, Medicaid, child care, and Pre-K essential services for Hoosiers. I could not support a budget that does not take all Hoosiers into account. ![]()

The concurrence for Senate Bill 289, effectively dismantling diversity, equity and inclusion programs in the state, has passed the Senate today by a vote of 34-16. Authors, sponsors and supporters of 289 claim that it will dismantle discrimination and has nothing to do with DEI initiatives, however, there is no doubt that the bill targets programs designed to uplift diversity in our state. There is a history of segregation and misrepresentation in our nation's history and to dismantle DEI is to reverse years of work done to uplift communities that so many Hoosiers, including me, belong to, and because of this I voted no on SB 289 and will continue to fight for minority voices in Indi#INForAllorAll
This week, we are in full swing of conference committees as the end of this session draws near. Conference committees are a part of the legislative process. When a dissent is filed on a bill in which the original author of said bill doesn't agree with how it changed when it left its home chamber, the sponsors and authors meet to discuss the changes and try to reach an agreement. ![]()

Today, I was a conferee on House Bill 1689 and worked with the author on changes made to the bill. I have also been an advisor on the following bills: SB 525, 140 and HB 1003, 1666 and 1460. ![]()

This week marks National Work Zone Awareness Week. In 2024, there were around 7,000 crashes in work zones in our state including 30 deaths. These incidents are preventable through safe driving practices and adhering to all slowdowns on every type of road. Remember to continue focusing on the road during work zones and plan accordingly to traffic and construction as Indianapolis enters the summer. Focusing on safety and slowing down will keep our residents safer and better our infrastructure! #INForAll
