The 2025 Legislative Session has come to a close at 1:38 a.m. this morning. Senator Hunley and I reviewed some legislative wins we accomplished. Thank you to all Hoosiers for your support and advocacy. #INForAll
Hoosiers deserve a state budget that puts their needs first.![]()
Unfortunately, this budget falls short—and I cannot support it.![]()
It underfunds critical programs like:
⚫️Public education
⚫️Medicaid
⚫️Child care
⚫️On My Way Pre-K![]()
At the same time, it hands out private school vouchers to millionaires, slashes child care support for families earning just $45,000, and defunds public broadcasting.![]()
This budget delivers painful cuts to the services that working Hoosiers count on every day.![]()

The concurrence for Senate Bill 287, regarding school board matters, has just barely passed the Senate floor by one vote. SB 287 intends on injecting politics into school board elections, creating partisan labels into areas that should instead focus on the well-being and education of our students. There are many challenges facing students in the classroom, from underfunding to shortages in staff and learning setbacks, none of which will be alleviated by 287. School boards also currently struggle with recruitment, an issue that would be made worse with the passing of SB 287 and the requirement of party affiliation to be announced ahead of elections. I voted no on this bill to promote growth in our schools without the need for party affiliation.
It doesn’t matter what you call it, the fact is that Social & Emotional Learning in classrooms is an important aspect of safe, supportive environments where all students can learn and grow—academically and emotionally.![]()
HB 1002 would eliminate the requirement for SEL, stripping teachers of a powerful tool to support students with behavioral challenges. Without SEL, classrooms could see more disruptions, making it harder for every student to focus and succeed.![]()
Teachers see firsthand how SEL helps struggling students get back on track. Let’s not take that away. #INForAll![]()
