SOUTH BEND — The Midwest Continental Divide Commission will host a series of public meetings to gather community input as it shapes a long-term vision for the St. Joseph County region and its trail network. State Sen. David Niezgodski (D-South Bend), a member of the newly created commission, released the following statement:

“I am excited to see the fruits of Senate Bill (SB) 468 in action,” Niezgodski said. “Bringing the community together to brainstorm and focus on the future of St. Joseph County, including outdoor recreation and ecotourism, was exactly the intent of this legislation. It’s an opportunity to showcase the very reasons we love South Bend and St. Joseph County.”

Niezgodski authored SB 468 during the 2025 legislative session, successfully securing passage of the bill along with $2 million every year over the next 20 years in the state budget to support the initiative.

“I encourage everyone to attend the public engagement sessions to listen, share your perspective and be part of this innovative new project,” he added.
