INDIANAPOLISSenate Bill (SB) 148, Indiana Crime Guns Taskforce, passed the Senate unanimously. State Senator Rodney Pol Jr. (D-Chesterton), author of the bill, released the following statement:

“Keeping our communities safe is a top priority,” said Pol. “Adding Porter and LaPorte counties to the Indiana Crime Guns Taskforce will provide law enforcement with more tools to solve crimes and strengthen public safety.”

Pol noted Northwest Indiana’s proximity to Chicago as a key factor in the need for expanded participation in the task force.

“I am grateful for the support of my authors, Sen. Aaron Freeman (R-Indianapolis) and Mike Bohacek (R-Michiana Shores),” said Pol. “I also wanted to thank my co-authors, local law enforcement that came to Indianapolis to testify, the bipartisan support my bill has seen throughout this process, and my House sponsors, Reps. Chris Jeter (R-Fishers), Randy Novak (D-Michigan City), Chuck Moseley (D-Portage), and Jim Pressel (R-Rolling Prairie).”

This bill now moves to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
