MICHIGAN CITY— The Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) is currently reinforcing the Trail Creek seawall by installing sheet piling along the structure. While the project is underway, State Sen. Rodney Pol Jr. (D-Chesterton) is urging greater public communication and calling for comprehensive water quality and sediment testing.
“As there is a push from the federal government, creating a ripple effect to the states, to ignore climate change, pull funding for environmental protection and fail to safeguard our communities, we must, more than ever, demand real protection for our collective heath and environment, particularly to protect the gem of Indiana, our Dunes,” said Pol.
Pol emphasized the importance of transparency during infrastructure projects that impact natural waterways and local ecosystems. He called on NIPSCO and relevant agencies to ensure residents are informed and that proper environmental safeguards are in place.
“Public trust depends on accountability and openness,” Pol added. “Our community deserves to know that their environment and public health are being protected during this kind of work.”
