INDIANAPOLIS –On Friday, the Indiana Democratic Caucus released the following statement in response to several Republican state leader’s involvements in a Texas lawsuit that aims to overturn the presidency.
“We are extremely disappointed and embarrassed to see Indiana’s Attorney General and five members of the Indiana Republican congressional delegation support Texas’ lawsuit to overturn the will of the people in other states and deny the presidency to the rightful winner of the election, Joe Biden. This lawsuit is without merit and is a dangerous attempt to overthrow the results of the election which has already been certified by states after an extensive process of fruitless legal challenges. We agree with the Attorney General of Pennsylvania who called this lawsuit a “seditious abuse of the judicial process.”
“How would Attorney General Hill and our Republican members of Congress react if California or New York filed a lawsuit with the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the results of an election in Indiana? We are certain they would loudly condemn this as an egregious overreach that has no foundation or precedent in federal law. Indiana leaders would never stand idly by while other states tried to intervene in our own election, and yet Republican Indiana officials are supporting a lawsuit to do just that in four other states.
“In fact, The Indiana Election Commission changed our election laws just ahead of the 2020 primary to make voting easier and safer during a pandemic. And now, Indiana Republicans are attempting to intervene in other states’ elections for making similar changes. It’s hypocrisy, and it serves only to further divide our nation.
“We call on Governor Holcomb, Secretary of State Lawson and all other Indiana Republican leaders to condemn this dangerous political ploy and stand up for the integrity of state elections.”
