INDIANAPOLIS—Today, the Senate Democratic Caucus presented Senate Resolution 53 honoring Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action as organizations that have been at the front lines calling for common-sense gun legislation to protect the lives of children. Senate Democratic Leader Greg Taylor (D-Indianapolis) released the following statement:

“Gun violence continues to devastate our communities, with Indiana seeing a rise in suicides, accidents and homicides associated with firearms. Gun violence is now the number one cause of death for children in our nation. We are in a gun violence epidemic, and it’s vital that we take action to protect the lives of our residents and children. Thoughts and prayers are not enough.

“That’s why it’s such an honor to celebrate organizations like Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, who have been unwavering in their fight for common-sense gun safety legislation to combat the senseless and preventable violence that we’ve seen rising. Their advocacy for life-saving policies that are proven to reduce gun violence is critical, and my caucus is appreciative of their efforts and dedication.

“We will continue to push for those life-saving policies and advocate alongside Moms and Students Demand Action until we reach a point where our residents and our children don’t experience legitimate fear that they may lose their life to gun violence while learning in school, grocery shopping, picking up their siblings or otherwise simply trying to live their lives.”
