SOUTH BEND—State Senator David Niezgodski (D-South Bend) calls for a moment of silence on the Senate floor to express his grief for the house fire that broke out Sunday evening on the west side of South Bend. He released the following statement:

“I am incredibly saddened to hear the devastating news that 5 children were lost in the house fire that erupted late Sunday night. I send my deepest condolences to the families and friends that are going through such a terrible loss.

“I am extremely grateful for the heroic efforts of the South Bend Fire Department and my thoughts are with those who have sustained injuries. Thank you for your service to our community.

“I know I join the entire South Bend community in reflection and mourning with the families of these children during this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers go out to my community.”
