INDIANAPOLIS—Senate Bill 253 passed on third reading today, officially sending it to the House of Representatives for the second half of the legislative process. With a vote of 49 in favor and zero opposed, State Senator Rodney Pol Jr. (D-Chesterton) released the following statement:
“I am excited to see this bill pass unanimously on the Senate Floor. This is a huge step towards saving lives in Northwest Indiana. One of the most stunning parts of the state, Lake Michigan, carries inherent dangers despite its beauty.
“Having life-saving equipment that is easily visible and accessible can make the difference of life or death. Seconds matter when a rip current sweeps a person into the water or when a person loses the ability to stay above water.
“I hope my distinguished colleagues in the House can see the importance of this bill and pass it with as much support as the Senate did. I look forward to continued conversations to make sure Hoosiers have the safety equipment they need.”
