INDIANAPOLIS—Today, Vice President Kamala Harris joined Democratic members of the Indiana Legislature for a roundtable discussion and media avail on abortion access in Indiana. Her visit comes as a critical show of support to Hoosier and Democratic efforts to defend women’s reproductive rights as the supermajority moves toward a total abortion ban with limited exceptions in Indiana. Statements from Indiana Senate Democratic Leader Greg Taylor (D-Indianapolis) and State Senator Jean Breaux (D-Indianapolis) can be found below.

Senate Democratic Leader Greg Taylor’s statement:

“I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for taking time from her global schedule to join us in Indiana to show support for women’s health care. Indiana is currently the only state in the nation that is holding a special session to ban abortion. This is the beginning of a process that, if successful, will have deadly outcomes for pregnant women in a state that already has the 3rd highest maternal mortality rate in the country. Democrats in this body are ready to fight with everything we’ve got for Hoosier women and families who deserve the freedom to make private reproductive decisions without government interference as they have for the last 50 years.”
