This week marks National Work Zone Awareness Week. In 2024, there were around 7,000 crashes in work zones in our state including 30 deaths. Remember to continue focusing on the road during work zones and plan accordingly to traffic and construction. Your efforts will tremendously impact our infrastructure and keep all Hoosiers safe. #INForAll
Today, I served as a conferee on the Conference Committee discussing HB 1001, the state budget. We had a productive conversation informed by the revenue forecast released last week. It’s clear we need to explore ways to reduce spending and reprioritize the budget to ensure critical programs—like Medicaid and public education—are adequately funded. I look forward to continued discussions to make sure Hoosiers are well supported by their government. #INForAll
Yesterday, we received Indiana’s latest revenue forecast, and the outlook is concerning. The state is projected to see a shortfall of $2.4 billion in revenue over the biennium. This sharp drop demands careful consideration and responsible action.![]()
As we enter critical discussions about the state budget, I will be focused on protecting core priorities: fully funding public education, ensuring access to quality health care and maintaining strong support for our retirees.![]()
Now more than ever, we must make smart, values-driven decisions to protect Hoosiers and keep our state on stable financial footing.

Today, I voted yes on HB 1001, the state budget. This bill includes important investments for Northern Indiana, such as funding for the South Shore Line, support for the Midwest Continental Divide Commission and language for an Innovation Development District—which will help drive economic development in the South Bend area—and significant resources for mental health. While the budget is not yet in its final form, I’m pleased to support this version and look forward to ongoing discussions to continue improving the bill.![]()

Today, the Senate Appropriations Committee passed the proposed budget, House Bill 1001. I, along with members of my caucus, proposed and supported amendments to improve Hoosier lives, including:
Fully funding the Child Care Development Fund (CCDF)
Increase maximum annual Affordable Workhouse Housing Tax Credit from $30 M to $60 M
Fully Funding Curricular Materials at $244 M
Funding additional slots for Home and Community-Based Care waivers
Increasing Community Mental Health Funding to $150 M
I look forward to collaborating across the aisle over the next couple of weeks to finalize a budget that benefits all Hoosiers.
