This week marked the start of the second half of session where bills switched chambers (House bills are now assigned to the Senate). The week was filled with committee hearings, constituent meetings, and a mid session town hall in Senate District 30. I also enjoyed meeting with:
🏫Graduate students from the Science Policy Initiative at Notre Dame
💓School Social Workers
🤝The National Coalition of 100 Black Women
🏛️400+ constituents at my mid session town hall meeting
The second half of session will focus on the budget and other fiscal bills that will impact all Hoosiers. I’m energized and determined to fiercely advocate for bills that improve the quality of life for all Hoosiers and defeat harmful legislation. #InForAll
I am incredibly grateful for the 400+ constituents who attended my Midway Session Town Hall with my colleague Rep. Carey Hamilton. As your public servant, I firmly believe that elected officials work for their constituents, not the other way around. It’s my commitment to remain accessible and responsive to your needs. ![]()
My message to our district: We are witnessing the continuation of the civil rights movement—a new era in the fight for justice, compassion, fairness, and equality. I urge you to stand with me in joining this movement to ensure that the next generation of Hoosiers enjoys the liberties and freedoms that are enshrined in our Constitution.![]()
I firmly believe in the power of hope. Our nation and state went through difficult times over the past 400+ years. I’m confident that with hope and resiliency, we shall overcome. ![]()

HB 1515 strips away local control over zoning decisions for charter schools in 92 counties, allowing them to open without regulation on how many can cluster near traditional public schools. A charter authorizer hours away from Indianapolis could approve unlimited charters in the city—without any supply and demand analysis.![]()
The impact doesn’t stop there. HB 1515, combined with SB 1, SB 518, and HB 1001, undermines traditional public schools by creating a chaotic system that contradicts the very arguments my Republican colleagues make about “efficiency” in education.![]()
❌ More charters opening—many of which close within 3-5 years—will destabilize students.
❌ Property taxes will shift to charter schools, which are run by unelected boards.
❌ State funding responsibility is shifting onto local taxpayers, further burdening communities.![]()
These bills lack strategic analysis, prioritize transactional politics over smart policy, and are an outright attack on public education. We must fight for strong, accountable, and community-driven schools—not reckless policies that harm students and taxpayers alike.![]()
