Today, in the Health and Provider Services Committee, I had the opportunity to hear Senate Bill 475 and decided to join as a co-author. This bill aims to eliminate noncompete agreements for physicians and healthcare employees, paving the way for improved patient care across Indiana. By expanding the physician workforce, it will provide Hoosiers with greater access to quality healthcare and more options for their medical needs!
Today, I had the opportunity to speak at the IBLC press conference, sharing my perspective on the far-reaching consequences of Governor Braun's decision to eliminate DEI initiatives. This move will also deepen socioeconomic disparities and cast a chilling effect across Indiana. This executive order represents a significant step backward for our state.
“The time is always right to do what is right.” Every year on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I am deeply reminded of his unwavering dedication to civil rights and his relentless fight to uplift minority voices across America. Dr. King’s courage and vision paved the way for racial equality and expanded opportunities for so many, including myself. Because of his sacrifice, I am able to represent and advocate for the people of District 34 today. Let us honor his legacy by continuing the work he started—championing justice, equality, and unity in our communities and beyond.
Today in Local Government committee, we heard testimony on Senate Bill 14, which provides the right to food and produce production. This bill follows rhetoric expressed in my bill that aims to provide a grant to help expand fresh produce options within new or already established grocery businesses. I support this bill wholeheartedly. No more hungry Hoosiers!
The Indiana Black Legislative Caucus (IBLC) works to develop policies and pass laws that will positively impact both minority communities and all Hoosiers throughout the state. This session, our agenda is focused on physical and mental health. I am honored to be a part of this historic caucus as my first session continues in full swing! Healthy bodies, healthy minds. #InForAll
