State Senator Karen Tallian (D-Ogden Dunes) responded to both the Senate’s and House of Representatives’ approval of House Bill (HB) 1385, which included provisions to address the status of the Lake Michigan shoreline. First, HB 1385 provides guidelines for the repair or construction of protective sea walls along Lake Michigan. The bill also solidifies the ruling that the public has a right to use the Lake Michigan shoreline and beaches for recreation.

“The situation along the Lake Michigan shoreline right now is heartbreaking,” Sen. Tallian said. “As it stands now, we are one big storm away from houses, property and utilities from falling into the lake. This bill is a first step in providing a little relief to the dire situation along the lakefront. I count this as a big win for the Lake Michigan shoreline.”
