INDIANAPOLIS—On Tuesday, Senate Bill 1–the supermajority’s abortion ban bill–passed out of the Rules and Legislative Procedure Committee with a vote of 7-5. Temporary Rules Committee member, State Senator Shelli Yoder (D-Bloomington) offered this response:
“Senate Bill 1 has already made it farther than it should have in the legislative process—its sole intent is to strip women of their liberty and bodily autonomy and it should have been dead on arrival. It’s frankly ridiculous we’re even hearing it—I’m disappointed it passed out of committee, especially when not one single person has testified in favor of it. I hope Republicans see the light before the final vote and let this bill die. We must allow women to retain full personhood and freedom, leave healthcare workers to do their jobs, and do some real work for the Hoosiers who elected us.”
