WASHINGTON D.C.—Yesterday, June 26, State Senator La Keisha Jackson (D-Indianapolis) attended the White House Safer States Legislative Convening. Senator Jackson released the following statement:

“I was honored to attend this conference at the White House on such an important issue. Gun violence has plagued not only our state but our nation. I’m grateful for the chance to talk with colleagues from different states and discuss solutions to combat this epidemic.

“This convening provided a unique opportunity to hear from experts and advocates who have been working tirelessly on the front lines of our gun violence crisis. We discussed evidence-based strategies, shared best practices, and explored innovative policies that have shown promise in reducing gun violence. This collaborative effort underscored the importance of multifaceted approaches that include policy reform, community engagement and mental health support.

“It is clear that gun violence will not have a one-size-fits-all solution at the national level, but rather that community-based approaches with everyone contributing to halt this problem are our best first step to help save lives. Though this convening has ended, the conversation is just starting. I will continue to fight for safer, common-sense solutions to gun violence to make Indiana safer once and for all.”
