It’s past midnight and we just concluded today’s session. I fiercely fought to fund public education, Medicaid, On My Way to Pre-K, the 13th Check for retirees, various tax relief provisions including eliminating utility taxes, and provisions to support affordable housing. On second reading, I filed 20 amendments out of 67 amendments that were filed by my caucus on HB 1001 (Budget Bill), including:🏫Increasing funding for public education (tuition support, covering curricula cost, and complexity index)🤝Support social workers and school psychologists👵👴 Freezing property taxes for seniors and disabled veterans 🏠Increasing renter deductions 📕Establishing sales tax holidays 🩺Eliminating waitlists for FSSA’s Pathways and the Health and Wellness waivers Sadly, every single amendment was rejected by Republicans.I also fiercely opposed SB 1, which would provide minimal property tax relief while pushing locals to raise income tax to make up revenue losses for local governments, schools, and libraries. The bill would devastate local communities and traditional public schools, leaving them significantly underfunded. But this fight isn’t over. I will continue to stand up and advocate for all Hoosiers, especially the vulnerable and marginalized, not the ultra-wealthy. Let’s pass a budget that lifts everyone up — not just the few at the top.#INForAll ... See MoreSee Less

Today, the statehouse is filled with Hoosiers from across the state protesting against Senate Bill 1 and its cuts to public education and libraries in the Red for (Ed)ucation Rally. Our message is clear. This session, the Republican majority has once again failed Indiana’s 1 million students in traditional public schools. These students deserve full and fair funding from the General Assembly. Our teachers and support staff deserve respect—not just in words, but through meaningful compensation. And we must reject any effort to politicize school board races, which undermines local control and public trust.I will continue to be a fierce advocate for public education and for the families who choose it. Public schools are not just institutions—they are foundational to our democracy. When we underfund them and disrespect the professionals who power them, we hurt student outcomes, weaken our future workforce, and risk falling behind the rest of the nation and the world.Indiana’s students can’t afford neglect. And neither can our future.#INForAll ... See MoreSee Less

Today, I was honored to visit with Indy’s 911 dispatchers to recognize their heroic work during National 911 Telecommunications Appreciation week. When Hoosiers dial 911 seeking help during what could be the worst day of their lives, these public servants answer the call to assist and save lives. Every heart posted on the glass wall indicates a life saved, and every duck indicates a baby that was delivered with the guidance provided by a 911 dispatcher. Today and everyday, we honor first responders, including 911 dispatchers. ... See MoreSee Less

My amendment to HB 1002 to restore social and behavioral assessments was accepted, which will preserve the ability for school psychologists to support the needs of students with health, functional, behavioral, and social needs. With two weeks left until the end of session, I will fiercely advocate for policies that are responsive to the needs of all Hoosiers.#INForAll ... See MoreSee Less
