This weekend, I had the honor of celebrating two incredible events that showcase the heart and soul of our community. At Brics, we marked 15 years of sweet success in the district! I had a great time serving as a guest scooper on Saturday — handing out ice cream and connecting with our amazing neighbors. Thank you to Brics for your continued commitment to giving back. Small businesses like yours are the cornerstone of our communities, and it’s vital that we support them as they help our communities grow and thrive.I also had the privilege of joining Hoosier Eid Fest — a beautiful celebration of culture, faith and community. Thank you to the organizers for inviting me to speak, and to Mayor Sue Finkam and Councilor Anita Joshi for championing cultural diversity in Carmel. When we honor and uplift all communities, our cities thrive. As Dr. King said, “We may have all come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now.” #INForAll ... See MoreSee Less

I fiercely oppose the proposed rate hike from AES Indiana, which would raise utility bills for families across Indianapolis by 13.5%

@SenatorJDFord & I have called on the IURC to hold at least 5 public hearings so Hoosiers have the opportunity to voice their concerns directly.

With already high cost of living, another rate increase could be devastating especially for seniors and families on fixed incomes. I urge Marion County citizens to submit their comments here:

Yesterday at the State Budget Committee, I called out the Secretary of State for misusing public funds, skipping key meetings, globe-trotting on taxpayer dollars, and rewarding political allies. This abuse of office must end. Hoosiers deserve better.

We reviewed important agency updates and funding proposals impacting Substance Use Disorder Treatment, the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP), Pathways Waiver, and Home and Community Based Services. Medicaid serves about 2 million Hoosiers.

We must sustain the program financially, improve access to affordable healthcare, and focus on health outcomes to help Hoosiers live healthier lives. I will continue to advocate for transparency, fiscal responsibility and accountability.

At today’s Medicaid Advisory Committee meeting, I expressed my support for increasing representation of self-advocates on the Beneficiary Advisory Council. Their lived experiences are critical to shaping better, more responsive health policy.

I raised concerns about proposed federal cuts to Medicaid and FSSA’s policy formulation approach which is driven by fiscal analysis rather than health outcomes. The real underlying issue is that too many Hoosiers still lack access to an affordable and reliable health care system.

Ignoring health outcomes, preventative services, and affordable access to healthcare will further increase Medicaid spending.

I will continue to advocate for responsive and strategic health policies that address the needs of our most medically vulnerable neighbors. #INForAll
