Thank you to all the constituents who joined me for today’s Friday with Fady, and I’m grateful to Batman’s Grill for their hospitality. The main concerns impacting our community that were shared by participants included:🏥Cuts to Medicaid services, including proposed cuts to recreational therapy. Thank you to the advocates from My Voice MyRT for sharing powerful stories about the harmful impact of reduced hours and funding.🏫 Underfunding public education and concerns about the recent $107 million in federal education funding withheld from Indiana by the Trump administration. In addition, I heard concerns from IPS parents about the role of the ILEA and its impact on Indianapolis students.⚖️The talk by the Gov and some legislators to take over Indy’s downtown. The solution is to empower Indy with local control to enact stricter gun laws than what’s allowed by the state, giving our communities the tools they need to stay safe.🎓Attacks on public universities, including legislation and executive orders that threaten academic freedom, free speech and access to degree programs.🏛Worries about the direction of our government, both at the state and federal level, and what it means for the future of our democracy.💲Federal spending and the growing deficit, and the misplaced spending priorities.Being your public servant is the greatest honor of my life. Conversations like these bring your voice directly to the Statehouse, and I will always fight for a government that works for the people. #INForAll ... See MoreSee Less

Yesterday, I had the honor of speaking with youth scholars participating in St. Luke's United Methodist Church Justice Ministry’s Freedom Schools program. Freedom Schools (Children's Defense Fund) are built on a powerful mission: to empower children through reading, civic engagement and cultural awareness in addition to helping students become lifelong learners and agents of change. Indiana has nearly 1 million traditional public school students. We owe every one of them a future that’s just, equitable, and filled with opportunities to thrive. This means:✔️ Fully funding textbook fees and school meals✔️ Investing in early learning, enrichment and summer programs✔️ Paying educators and support staff what they deserve✔️ Hiring more school counselors, social workers and mental health professionals✔️ Protecting students’ freedom to read, learn and think critically Public education is public good. Public schools sustain our democracy, and that’s why I will continue to fiercely advocate for strategic investments in public education. ... See MoreSee Less

Today, the State Budget Agency and Administration officials presented Indiana’s Fiscal Year 2025 closeout. While the numbers mathematically show a modest surplus for 2025-2027, the numbers don’t tell the real story. That surplus came at the expense of:🏥Thousands of seniors who are still waiting on a Medicaid waiver waitlist to receive services, children with complex health conditions and ABA patients receiving less services and less funding 📚20,000 children deprived of high-quality child care, and thousands denied the opportunity to attend On My Way to Pre-K due to reduced eligibility thresholds 🤝 55% of Hoosier families making less than $55K annually while working 2-3 jobs and struggling to make ends meet (covering rising housing, childcare, food, and healthcare costs)This budget is numerically balanced, but morally inhumane. It favors wealthy corporations and individuals over the poor and marginalized. Budgets are moral documents that must be responsive to the urgent needs of fellow citizens. While I do support balanced budgets and a modest surplus, however, policymakers must ask themselves: Is a status quo fiscal performance worth celebrating while Hoosiers suffer? The 2026-2027 budgets exceed $40B in spending, so the question is not whether Indiana can afford to lift up the most vulnerable; rather, the question is about the order of priorities in the state budget. In addition, the “Billionaires Bailout Bill - BBB” will impact state programs negatively while clearly prioritizing the ultra-wealthy. I’m calling on the Governor and state fiscal leaders to provide a report within 30 days detailing the negative harms of the BBB on the daily lives of Hoosiers, especially the most vulnerable. This is not a Democrat vs. Republican issue. State and federal fiscal policies will impact Hoosiers, and I will work tirelessly in a bipartisan fashion to advocate for the most vulnerable in every corner and zip code in Indiana. #INForAll ... Another great day canvassing SD30 continuing my door-to-door conversations in Devonshire/Lawrence Township. I heard concerns about the high costs of healthcare and the impact of state and federal funding cuts to critical Medicaid home and community based services to senior citizens, children with complicated healthcare conditions, and ABA therapy. In addition, I heard concerns about the underfunding of public education, public safety issues impacting fighter fighters and first responders, and the general direction of our state and country. My message: we are a resilient community, and we shall overcome these challenges with hope, unity, and active civic engagement. ... See MoreSee Less
