INDIANAPOLIS—The NPHI Healthcare Workers Union, a startup unionization campaign of nurses and behavioral health aides at Neuropsychiatric Hospital of Indianapolis, is fighting for unionization. State Senators Rodney Pol Jr. (D-Chesterton) and David Niezgodski (D-South Bend) released the following statement:
“We are excited to give our support to the NPHI Healthcare Workers Union! They work to seek better staffing, more safety measures, better pay, affordable benefits, and a fairer disciplinary process. The current staffing ratios leave gaps in patient care where nurses and healthcare workers have to work extra to fill in the gap. We applaud healthcare workers for being heroes, but if this is how we treat our heroes it is not enough. They deserve better!”
