INDIANAPOLIS—Today, Senate Democratic Leader Greg Taylor (D-Indianapolis) released the following statement on State Senator Eddie Melton’s retirement from the Senate:

“It’s been a true honor and privilege to serve alongside Senator Melton during his time in the Senate. He has been a dedicated, thoughtful and passionate leader, and the state of Indiana is better off because of his devotion to fighting for Hoosiers’ wellbeing and quality-of-life. As our ranking member on the Senate Appropriations Committee, he fought on behalf of our caucus to secure many budgetary victories for Hoosiers; and, as Assistant Democratic Leader, he helped our caucus advance good public policy for the state of Indiana. Sen. Melton has also worked especially hard to support public education, bolster economic development in his district and across Indiana; and has been a leading voice on issues of equity and justice. Though his absence at the Statehouse will undoubtedly be felt, our caucus congratulates him on his new role as Mayor of Gary, and we look forward to seeing the great work he will continue to do for those in his community.”
