Yesterday, we bore witness to justice long delayed but never forgotten.I had the profound honor of speaking at the unveiling of Robert A. Anderson’s headstone at the Covenanter Cemetery. Born into slavery—sold at just three months old for a $50 wagon—Mr. Anderson was the child of his enslaver, yet he carved a life of dignity, resilience and legacy here in Bloomington after the Civil War. He became one of the first Black men to settle in Monroe County, owning land just north of where he now rests. Thanks to the years-long dedication of community historians like Liz Mitchell, we now know where he is buried. And now, in 2025, his final resting place is marked with his own words—words preserved from his writings and old newspaper articles. In a time when some still resist the full telling of our American story, yesterday was a reminder: we must remember, we must teach and we must continue bending the arc toward justice—on purpose.Rest in power, Mr. Anderson. Your story lives.#BlackHistoryIsAmericanHistory #MonroeCounty #RobertAAnderson #JusticeInMemory #CovenanterCemetery #IndianaHistory #INForAll ... See MoreSee Less

This morning I joined Hoosier Hills Food Bank to distribute boxes of food to our neighbors—and the line was already forming before we even opened. Seniors. Parents. Kids. Waiting under the hot sun for the most basic need: food. While it was a joy to serve alongside incredible volunteers, it was also a stark reminder of the real harm caused by the Governor’s decision to reject Sun Bucks—a federal program that would’ve helped feed school-aged children during the summer months. The need is urgent. The line was long. And the stakes are high. No child should go hungry because school is out. No senior should wonder how they’ll get through the week.We can and must do better—for every Hoosier. #INForAll ... See MoreSee Less

I had the honor to celebrate the 2025 graduating class of the Excel Center — right here in the heart of my district! These graduates are more than a success story—they are the soul of our community. Their resilience, determination and commitment remind us that it’s never too late to show up for ourselves, to dream big, and to finish what we start. To the graduates: You did it. And your journey is just beginning. I am proud of each of you! Maddie going into nursing, Noah going into horticulture, and on and on! Congratulations! #INForAll ... See MoreSee Less

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom—and a reminder of how fiercely it must be defended. It marks the day the last enslaved people were told they were free—years after they should have been. That delay wasn’t an accident. It was a strategy. One we still see playing out today.Because let’s be clear:When books are banned, when history is rewritten, when peaceful voices are silenced, and when Black Hoosiers are still fighting to be seen and heard in their own communities—freedom is not fully realized.Juneteenth is not just about the past. It’s about what we do now—in a time when the very idea of justice is being politicized, when equity is treated as a threat and when some would rather erase our shared history than confront it.We will not look away.We will not be silent. And we will not stop fighting for a future where every Hoosier is truly free—not just in law, but in life.Freedom came late. Justice cannot.#Juneteenth #INForAll #ThisIsAmerica ... See MoreSee Less

Grateful to join the Ellettsville Chamber for a powerful convo with local leaders and business owners. When communities speak up, legislators listen. Thanks to all who showed up, asked bold questions and reminded me who I’m fighting for. #INForAll #StatehouseToMainStreet

Proud to help sign HB 1221 into law—a win for the teachers, public employees and first responders who gave everything to Indiana.

They showed up for us. This law shows up for them.
    This isn’t just policy—it’s a promise kept.
