I am so proud of our Indiana students, teachers, parents and support staff who have worked to implement the science of reading curriculum. ![]()
Because of their efforts, reading proficiency amongst our third graders has increased nearly 5% in just one year — a state record!![]()
The education of our young people is paramount to the success of our state. We must use this success as a call to action to ensure those students still on the path towards reading proficiency have the support they need to get there. #INForAll
Our interim committees are just around the corner! I am grateful to serve on two committees this interim and to join a bipartisan group of legislators and community experts as we take a closer look at some of the most important issues facing our state. #INForAll
SEA 103 is a much-needed step in the right direction to ensure that a balance is struck between public safety and efficient public policy in our state and, specifically, Northwest Indiana.![]()
I am grateful for this legislation and for Governor Braun ceremoniously signing this bill in Lake County amongst a bipartisan group of local leaders. ![]()

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom—and a reminder of how fiercely it must be defended.![]()
It marks the day the last enslaved people were told they were free—years after they should have been. That delay wasn’t an accident. It was a strategy. One we still see playing out today.![]()
Because let’s be clear:
When books are banned, when history is rewritten, when peaceful voices are silenced, and when Black Hoosiers are still fighting to be seen and heard in their own communities—freedom is not fully realized.![]()
Juneteenth is not just about the past.
It’s about what we do now—in a time when the very idea of justice is being politicized, when equity is treated as a threat and when some would rather erase our shared history than confront it.![]()
We will not look away.![]()
We will not be silent.![]()
And we will not stop fighting for a future where every Hoosier is truly free—not just in law, but in life.
Freedom came late. Justice cannot.![]()
